This term, year 8 has been working on a project where they have arranged, rehearsed and recorded their own version of Band Aid’s ‘Do they know it’s Christmas?’ After the school collected over 80 shoe boxes for the Samaritan’s Purse and The Whitby Lions charity, the pupils wanted to do something more. After watching the work of the Samaritans in Africa, the pupils decided to record their own interpretation of a well-known song, that in 1984, raised millions for starving people in third world countries. Year 8 sang, played violin, clarinet, flute, guitar and much more to record their version of Band Aid using the school recording equipment. The track has now been edited and mastered, ready to be boxed up and sent to the Samaritans to take to Africa. Each pupil has written a personal letter to the children in Africa as well as a hand drawn or painted picture. This is with the intention of making a child smile at Christmas. It’s been a really special project and the pupils should be proud of their hard work and effort.
