Year 10 students had a fantastic week of work experience. Last week saw them all out in the work place with a wide variety of employers and we are delighted with the feedback from the employers and students.

We had students at Ruswarp Primary School and Otley All Saints Primary.  Both had excellent feedback; showed initiative and interacted well with the children.  Other placements included East Barnby Outdoor Centre, where our student assisted with adventurous activities such as canoeing.  We had two students at Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary. They showed great resilience cleaning hedgehogs out daily and also feeding sheep and pigs together with some tree planting.

One of our students was lucky enough to gain a placement at Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough as a technical assistant.  He was given a tailor made timetable and thoroughly enjoyed his week. Dalby Forest Cycle Hub and Pets at Home, Scarborough, Baby Bunheads (making tutus for competitions and shipping round the world), Whitby Spa Pavilion, and being a Sports Business Associate and meeting some Manchester City and Chelsea players were other experiences our Year 10s have been fortunate enough to enjoy.

We’ve also had students on various farms, working hard at agricultural engineering; another doing general stable management and horse care and another looking after race horses and leading them to the race course for the jockeys to ride.

The Feedback

Our Year 10s have received some fantastic feedback from their employers.. ‘she did so well with us..keen to do her best at whatever task she was given.’ ‘..quick to learn and follow instructions, polite and we enjoyed having her as part of the team.’  ‘….is an asset and open to any task.’

It seems that our students enjoyed their experiences of the world of work and they have all made us very proud.  It takes a lot of organising and paperwork to get to the point of sending our students our for the week but it is invaluable and there have been many life lessons learnt!

Each Student Completed a Work Experience Booklet

Ebony’s in year 10 says “My week doing work experience was something I am never going to forget”. You can read her review of the week here and we hope to share some more reviews here soon!
