This week ouryYear 10 students left Fyling Hall to spend a week in a work place. Work experience is an invaluable opportunity. These days many schools are unable to offer work experience but at Fyling Hall we believe it is incredibly important and not to be missed. There was definitely some nerves and uncertainty before setting off, but also excitement and anticipation. Work experience for students helps with confidence, organisation, responsibility and independence. Year 10 work alongside adults and gain professional experience. They can develop skills in their area of interest and it can be very helpful in the future, for example when looking at year 12 subject options, university course, or careers.
We caught up with Sarah, Isaac and Emily before they set-off to find out where they were going to be working and what they were expecting. Have a watch of the video below. The work placements this year are varied, to reflect the varied interests and skills of our students. We would like to say a huge thank you to each and every employer that has offered a work placement.
As Isaac explains, each student has a work experience diary. This is a handy resource, providing them with information about work place procedures, for example. It is also a record of what they have done. They make notes and reflect on their experiences which helps to support what is learnt over the week.
We’re looking forward to hearing more from year 10! Watch this space for more news about work experience week.
