Year 10 and Year 11 were all lucky enough to see the National Theatre’s award winning production of “An Inspector Calls” at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal on Wednesday. As most pupils are studying the play for their drama and English GCSEs, it was an invaluable opportunity to further their understanding of the play and its many themes, as well as an opportunity to expose them to a culturally significant a captivating piece of theatre. An already beautifully written drama, penned by socialist JB Priestley, was interpreted in a visually spectacular and dramatic manner, subtly highlighting the play’s complex social and historical influences. It certainly caused lots of animated discussion which spilled from the theatre, to the coach and on into the classroom the following day.
