Wellness in School: A Fresh Focus for a Healthier, Happier Student Community

Wellbeing has become one of the most talked-about topics in education—and rightly so. As schools across the country prioritise student mental health, we’re proud to introduce our very own School Wellness Programme, designed to nurture not just minds, but hearts too.

“The days that make us happy make us wise”—our school motto isn’t just a phrase; it’s a guiding principle. And it perfectly captures the spirit of our new wellbeing initiative.

Small Acts, Big Impact: The Power of Kindness

In a recent senior school assembly, Mrs Aldous spoke to students about something beautifully simple: the power of positive actions. From holding a door open to offering a kind word, these small gestures create a ripple effect that uplifts others and strengthens our school community.

To keep kindness front and centre, students have been invited to reflect weekly on acts of kindness they give and receive. This exercise is more than a task; it’s a mindset shift.

Introducing Our Wellbeing Ambassadors

Miss Anders, who leads our Wellness Programme, introduced a new student-led initiative: Wellbeing Ambassadors.

These sixth form students have received dedicated training to offer peer-to-peer support, and they’ll be available during breaks in our newly opened Wellness Room—a calm, welcoming space for any student who simply needs to talk or take a moment.

More good news: this is just the beginning. Over time, more students will be invited to become Wellness Ambassadors, helping to grow a culture of compassion throughout the school.

Why School Wellness Matters Now More Than Ever

Supporting emotional wellbeing isn’t just a trend—it’s essential. Research consistently shows that students who feel emotionally supported perform better both academically and socially. Our Wellness Programme is a meaningful step towards creating a learning environment where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive.

We believe that every child deserves to feel good about themselves, and we’re committed to helping them develop the emotional tools they need for life—both in and out of the classroom.

As we remind our students and ourselves, the days that make us happy truly do make us wise.

We encourage all parents to talk with your children about what wellness means to them, and to ask about their experiences with the new programme. Together, we can ensure that kindness, connection, and care remain at the heart of our school.
