Welcome to the 2018 Autumn Term

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the 2018 Autumn Term.  We are now well under way which gives me the opportunity to pause for a brief update.

Firstly, I would like to welcome the newest members of our FHS team.  Helena Johnson returns to FHS as Head of Music.  As a former student, we are delighted to welcome her back.  We have recently expanded our Junior School (some of you may have noticed our remodelling in Ramsdale?) which also means that we have been able to expand our teaching team: Jane Creighton-Lees is teaching our Year 5 and 6 classes.  Finally, the Trustees have further invested in FHS’ future by creating a new Marketing position.  This exciting opportunity will be led by Angelique Russell.

One element of our marketing activities is a planned series of events; the first of which is a focus on Sixth Form Education to take place at school on 15th November from 7pm. Our panel will give parents and students an overview of Sixth Form education, a Fyling Hall perspective as well as what some may call, an alternative view.  It is open to all parents and appropriately aged students including those at FHS and those not, so should you know anyone who would benefit, please do bring them along.

We have also elected to take a fresh and digital approach to our Newsletter, which will now be known as the FHS Blog.  Pupils across the school will continue to flex their writing, filming and photographic muscles by reporting on school news, their opinions, ideas and sometimes their own work, but as of this year, via a digital blog. You may have noticed that you are reading this piece on our website (which we will further review in due course). We hope this new approach will ensure that we can provide you with a variety of content in a variety of ways whilst still allowing us to provide our pupils opportunities to expand their learning experiences outside of the classroom.  Watch this space for exciting news stories which we would be very happy for you to share with all of your friends and family!

This is one area where you can please help. Those of us at FHS know what a fantastic environment it is for our child(ren), and we want to spread the word.  We would love for you to follow us, share and endorse us on Social Media.  Many of you will be familiar with us on Facebook, but did you also know that we have a fylinghallschool page on Instagram?  Also on Instagram we have the student led fylinghall_matters which will work alongside our Blog as well as fylinghall_junior school, where you will find your (almost) daily insight focus on our fantastic Junior School, and finally, fylinghall_artstudio which needs no introduction.  Our Twitter presence is under review, but will be further utilised as our Blog grows.

Thank you for your ongoing support. As always should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
