Visiting the theatre is a big part of our drama curriculum at Fyling Hall, giving pupils the chance to experience live performance and gain ideas for their own practical work. Earlier this week year 11 pupils visited the Stephen Joseph Theatre to watch Birthdays Past, Birthdays Present by Alan Ayckbourn. We are very lucky to have this world class theatre on our doorstep in Scarborough.
Here is what Justine and Bailey, two of our Chinese students thought about visiting the theatre this week:
The performance is extraordinary! Firstly the stage is round and the audience sits all around the stage. The actors have to work harder because the audience can see 360°. I really enjoy that I can see the different perspectives of the stage and I love the setting.
The story is of a family who do not understand each other and it is very funny. It shows 4 birthdays in the family and what happens to them, but unusually it happens with the latest birthday first going back in time.
The youngest actress was amazing, because she played four different characters, one in each scene. I think she is gorgeous too.
