As part of their history and art studies, Forms 2 and 3 visited Whitby Museum last week to investigate Victorian artefacts. The pupils were interested to see the old dolls, with their ‘creepy’ wax faces and were fascinated to find an invention shown at the Great Exhibition of 1851 – Dr Merryweather’s Tempest Prognosticator, which could predict storms with the aid of leeches! Of course, the gory ‘Hand of Glory’ was the real draw…. but the pupils did very well to find and focus on the objects from the target era out of so many exhibits. Many thanks to Mr Husband for supporting the Junior pupils and driving the minibus.
