This week has been particularly poignant in the Music department with two live concerts and a major examination. On Monday evening, Akari, WoodWars and Sam Whitfield performed to a very relieved year 11 who have completed their GCSEs at Fyling Hall. Akari is made up of 3 year 11 pupils, Caleb Quaye, Sebastian Byford and James Gaffney, and it was these three boys who organised the gig and invited the other performers. The evening was very well received, and we wish them the best of luck with their GCSE Music results and with their future musical endeavours.

Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony has been echoing around the stack yard for weeks now and on Wednesday, the Year 13 music class sat their final A Level examination. Both Kate and George felt a sense of relief and sadness that the course has now come to an end. George and Kate have had many successful years performing at local venues and supporting professional musicians. Last night, we were lucky enough to run a trip to the Stephen Joseph Theatre to watch them perform live once again, supporting local group Henwen (featuring Miss Gillian Edwards – teacher of form 2) and the Bay Jazz Band. To perform at such a prestigious venue was one of the biggest highlights in their musical career together. The audience were emotional (to say the least!) and the final song “People Get Ready” brought the evening to a wonderful close.

Please come along to our final music concert of the year on Thursday 3rd July featuring special guests. Tickets are £3.00 and can be bought from Mrs Wormald directly, or please e-mail to reserve your place at s.wormald@fylinghall.org
