On the last Wednesday of term students from across the school performed a variety of Shakespeare pieces in our stunning Rose Garden.
The evening started with a superb rendition of a monologue from Henry V by Year 12 student Joe Buccanan. He performed in full Tudor dress bringing his costume from his work with live reenactments.
A selection of students from years 8-13 read sonnets throughout the evening, including Susie Gaffney, Kai Rhodes and Ian Pons and Belene Prati, who translated the sonnets into Spanish and Italian. It was wonderful to see our international community working together to produce excellent drama. A group of Year 9 students also translated sonnet 18 into their own song.
Two plays were also re enacted over the evening. Our GCSE Drama students from Year 10 performed extracts from Romeo and Juliet which included segments from the balcony scene, Tybalt’s death and the death of Romeo and Juliet. All of year 7 performed an abridged Macbeth including high energy sword fights and plenty of murders.
A wonderful evening was had by all, with cakes on sale to help students who are heading to Peru next year. Students are now looking forward to their next performances in September.
