A great evening was enjoyed by all who attended the official opening of the ‘new’ Learning Support and EAL Department. The highlight of the evening was the unveiling, cutting and eating of the fabulous celebratory cake which was made by Charlotte Harris for her Level 2 Higher Project.  Charlotte, who is an enthusiastic and talented baker, designed, baked and decorated the cake using skills she learned and practised during the course. She was taught how to make sugar paste models by Julie Springall of Cakes Nouveaux in Scarborough and these lessons resulted in a very professional finish. Many congratulations go to Charlotte on her success.Cake

All pupils who attend Learning Support in Y9 have the opportunity to complete the Higher Project Qualification, which is the equivalent to a short course GCSE. Charlotte’s project is the most recent entry. Previous projects have included dissertations entitled ‘What is the best James Bond movie?’, ‘Should King Richard III be buried in Leicester?’, ‘What is Fyling Hall’s favourite biscuit?’ and a study of the music of Eminem.  You may remember Tom Clarke’s art exhibition last spring which raised over £3000 for Save The Children – this was also a project entry. All pupils who have entered so far have passed with flying colours!

If you would like to find out more about the Project Qualification and the many other opportunities offered by the Learning Support and EAL Department, you are very welcome to drop in for a chat on Saturday 25th April from 10am -12.30pm, which is Fyling Hall School’s Open Morning or contact Mrs Orchard at d.orchard@fylinghall.org
