Fyling Hall’s Music Department has introduced a new ‘Mini Mentors’ programme to develop opportunities for GCSE and Junior School musicians. Mrs Wormald, Fyling Hall’s Head of Music, says the mentoring scheme involves a 20 minute weekly session where a GCSE student will listen to a junior musician play, offer some guidance and inspire the younger pupil to practise their instrument more often. As well as the mentoring sessions, the year 10 pupils are also assisting Miss Edwards with the junior orchestra by providing support and encouragement to the younger children. Accomplished flautist Anna is mentoring Harry in year 6, drummer Alfie is mentoring Arthur in year 4, and pianist Tegan is mentoring Ruby in year 3. The seniors and juniors are really enjoying the experience, and they will be performing together at the next school concert!
