Last week, 4 selected mathematicians – two from year eight and two from year 9 – travelled to Egglescliffe School to compete in a maths challenge. Our competitors were Arthur Watson, Freddie Elson, Jeremy Normanton, and Sophie Ferrer. It was a long day of maths and a long drive, but they were quite up to the challenge. The problems were, as implied in the name, challenging, but through perseverance, teamwork, and a positive attitude, the four gave it their best. Their exact placing was not announced, but the cooperation and demeanour overall was a massive improvement on last year’s, so the placing is bound to be as well.
