A Magical Morning with the Scarborough Spa Orchestra
On Tuesday 24th September, a group of pupils from Years 7, 8, 10, 11, and Sixth Form, along with some visiting Spanish students, embarked on an exciting trip to Scarborough to see the Scarborough Spa Orchestra. Although the weather didn’t cooperate, moving the concert indoors, the stunning views of South Bay and the captivating music more than made up for it.
Scarborough Spa Orchestra
The orchestra delighted us with a diverse range of music, from the delicate charm of the Skaters Waltz to iconic tunes like From Russia with Love, a favourite among many of the students. Head Girl, Olivia, noted, “The violin performance by Rebecca Smith was truly captivating,” while Hilde, another Sixth Former, shared her appreciation for the playful Tiszian Chikosh, quoting a Year 8 student who humorously said, “Bless you!” upon hearing the title.
The trip was not only a fun break from routine but also a valuable cultural experience, especially for the Year 8 students who are currently studying musical instruments of the orchestra. Mrs Swain, who organised the trip, said, “The pupils were a delight, and we even had audience members complimenting their excellent behaviour.”
After the performance, the pupils had the chance to meet the orchestra members and ask questions, learning all sorts of fun facts, including that the huge gong used in the performance is called a “tamtam!”
It was truly a memorable morning, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s visit.
