Key Stage 3 pupils took part in a fun competition that required them to write a short story in just six words. This was inspired by Ernest Hemingway, who famously wrote a six word story in response to a ten dollar wager that he could not make a reader cry with just 6 words. He won the bet:

“For sale: Baby shoes. Never worn.”

Our pupils were inspired to write a number of 6 word short stories of their own but the chosen winner was Carolina Clements (year 8), who wrote:

“Look away. Look back. She’s gone!”

Pupils were also asked to make their own exclusively designed book marks inspired by the books they like to read. The activity, inspired by World Book Day, allowed them to show a variety of artistic skills and there were some fantastic end results.
