Last week our Fyling Hall Book Club met in Mrs Milner’s room to discuss their latest reads. Participants read ‘Skellig’ by David Almond, and “The Terrible Thing that Happened to Barnaby Brocket” by John Boyne. They discussed the book whilst eating cookies made by Olivia Grace Hall. Here are some of the things they said:

“Skellig”

I liked the way it was set out. The plot was easy to follow and the chapters were short. I also liked Mina as she was a strong female character. – Olivia

I thought Skellig was a fallen angel. – Toby

I liked how you could interpret the character of Skellig in different ways. I also thought Skellig was a skeleton/angel-y thing because of his name. – Sarah

I thought Skellig was the devil in disguise. – Tomas

I like how the writer kept some secrets back until the very end as it created tension and suspense. – Marley

“The Terrible Thing that Happened to Barnaby Brocket”

I loved it. It was a great book and the pictures are amazing. – Olivia

I loved the dog because its name is Captain W E Johns.Tomas: It was sad how he got left by his mum in the park. – Toby

I liked the Grannies because they were adventurers and they were nice. – Sarah

Overall book club rated both of their latest reads 4/5. Our next book is The Bubble Wrap Boy.
