The Junior School pupils had a wonderful poetry day last week, organised by Mrs Woodhead, Mrs Park and the senior pupils. The day began with a poetry competition. The 6th Form judges selected Ben Carpenter as the best performance; the runners-up were Lilly Belle Whiteley and Arthur Watson. The staff selected Tomas Richardson as the winner and gave a special mention to Toby Richardson.
There followed an lively exchange of dramatic poems and performances, including a memorable enactment of The Emperor’s New Clothes!
The Juniors were then joined by Y9 pupils, who led Form 2 and 3 in a workshop on the poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. This was very successful, and it was inspiring to see the young people all working together to produce their final performance. Form 1, working with a group of 6th Formers, also learned a lovely poem about wellies, which they performed with actions for an appreciative audience. Very well done all, and thank you to our Senior English staff and to Dani Halley and Daniel Cheshire for their contributions towards the judging.
