On Saturday evening, the Spa Pavilion hosted Gala night, an evening that celebrated some of the best music and spoken word seen over the fortnight of this year’s Eskdale Festival. Pupils from Fyling Hall performed in several categories and over the fortnight, we received numerous first places. A notable achievement included the Senior Choir and Harmony group who both took first place against the prestigious Whitby Community Choir and the Whitby Feral Singers.
The Gala was a relaxed environment where the pupils were invited back to perform to a packed live audience in the Northern Lights Suite. Anna and Niamh Sweeney performed their fabulous duet on Sax and Clarinet. Charlotte McAdam performed a breath-taking piano solo, where you could hear a pin drop. The compere was surprised to hear that Charlotte is going on to study Art and not Music at University. Konrad & Ailsa performed with the Saturday morning band, ending the show with an explosive rendition of the ‘Rocky’ theme tune and Riverdance. They were part of a 60 piece band that included Ms Hornung, Niamh and Anna too. Olivia Coates and Ruby Wormald performed a poem called ‘Sisters’, they were congratulated by Sleights school pupils for performing their poem like real sisters! Lola Wilson performed a beautiful vocal solo piece from Mary Poppins called ‘Practically Perfect’ and finally the Harmony group were invited back to perform their A Capella rendition of ‘Sweet Dreams’ by the Eurhythmics.
The Gala concert was a great success and Mr Dave Bradley was a wonderful host for the evening, encouraging the young musicians for future performances. We look forward to competing and performing again next year.
