Fyling Hall Facts: 📚 From Monday to Friday: Life as a Weekly Boarder

By Alec I

Mornings: Home Away from Home 🌅

Each week starts on Monday morning when I arrive at school and head straight into lessons. It’s great to catch up with friends and get settled back into the week. The boarding house really becomes home from Monday evening onwards.

From Tuesday morning, it’s all about starting the day with breakfast in the dining hall. It’s not just about the food—it’s a chance to chat with friends and get a bit of extra motivation from the boarding staff before lessons begin. Plus, there’s always Bailey, our boarding house dog, around to make the morning feel even brighter. Whether he’s wagging his tail at the door or sneaking in for a cuddle, Bailey’s a big part of what makes boarding feel like home.

Lessons, Lunchtime and Learning 📚🍽️

School days at Fyling Hall are both challenging and fun. With small class sizes, teachers really get to know you and are always ready to help. It’s great because everyone’s focused, and there’s plenty of encouragement to try your best.

Lunchtimes are a chance to recharge. The food’s great, but what I love most is catching up with friends and relaxing before the afternoon lessons begin.

Afternoons are all about variety. One moment, you’re knee-deep in a science experiment; the next, you’re painting in art, rehearsing for drama, or out on the field for sports. There’s something for everyone, and the teachers make sure you’re always engaged and getting the most out of every experience.

After School: Study and Supper 📖🍽️

Once lessons finish, it’s time for supervised study. This is when we get homework done in a quiet and focused environment. Having teachers on hand to help is a game-changer—it makes tackling tricky assignments so much easier.

After study time, it’s off to dinner in the dining hall. It’s another great opportunity to catch up with friends and unwind a little before the evening begins.

Evenings: Relax, Play, and Connect 🌟

Evenings are a mix of fun and downtime. Whether you’re into football, playing piano, or just chilling in the common room, there’s always something going on. My favourite evenings are the ones spent laughing with friends, playing games, or hanging out in the kitchen.

One of my mates said it best: “The boarding house is like having a second family during the week. You’re never alone, and there’s always someone to help out or just have a laugh with.”

Why Weekly Boarding Works for Me 🏠📆

For me, weekly boarding at Fyling Hall is the best of both worlds. I arrive at school on Monday morning and stay until Friday afternoon, heading home after school to spend the weekend with my family. This routine means I can focus fully on my studies during the week, without distractions, and then enjoy time at home when the weekend rolls around.

It’s made me more independent while still giving me loads of support whenever I need it. The balance between school and home life gives me the best of both worlds, I’d definitely recommend it.
