On Monday 28 April, Fyling Hall’s Year Eight and Nine teams took on 24 other Yorkshire schools in the annual Team Maths Challenge.

 Maths Challenge 3

Cameron Davis, Jack Dudley, Harrison Langton and Ailsa Legg travelled across the moor to The Mount School in York, where four rounds of maths and problem solving awaited them.

The group ‘problem solving’ round was followed by the cross-number, where one pair tackled the ‘across’ clues and the other tackled the ‘down’ clues. Although the cross-number was definitely a challenge, it was easier than in previous years.

After lunch our teams first faced the shuttle round, and then finally the relay round, which involved running down the length of a sports hall to get the answers marked.

Our team had a great day out. As well as enjoying the maths, they managed a top half finish: tenth out of twenty five – a good result but one that we hope to build on next year.
