Fyling Hall Celebrates End of Year with Prize Giving, Speeches and a Tale of Resilience

As the academic year drew to a close, Fyling Hall came together for its much-loved annual Prize Giving—a tradition that has marked the beginning of summer holidays for generations. Held on a bright, windy,  Saturday morning in July, this event was more than just an awards ceremony. It was a celebration of community and the achievements that make our school so special.

Honouring Achievement Across All Areas

From sporting triumphs and academic excellence to musical performances, public speaking, and creative writing, the scope of accomplishments we celebrated reflected the passion, determination, and diverse talents of our pupils. With awards in subjects ranging from English and Maths to Horse Riding and Drama, our ceremony was a powerful reminder of the opportunities our students embrace each year.

It was a joy to see students recognised for their efforts, many of whom are continuing to break records, compete at county level, or contribute positively through leadership roles.

Words That Stuck With Us

Head Boy Alec and Head Girl Olivia delivered speeches that resonated deeply with students, staff, and parents alike. And in true Fyling Hall fashion, our Headmaster, Mr Allen, reminded us all of the values we hold dear—through a humorous yet powerful story involving a very stubborn donkey.

His tale illustrated the importance of perseverance and resilience, encouraging pupils to face challenges with courage and determination, no matter how deep the metaphorical well may seem.

“Always remember,” Mr Allen said, “if you find yourself looking down at someone in a well—metaphorically, of course—an act of kindness, encouragement or support could be the very thing that helps them climb out.”

Supporting Mental Health & Wellbeing

This year saw the introduction of our Pupil Wellness Ambassador Programme. Year 12 students volunteered to create a safe space for their peers by opening a dedicated wellness room during breaktimes. This initiative reflects our broader commitment to wellbeing and will expand to younger year groups in the coming academic year.

A School That Thrives Together

Reflecting on the success of our phone-free policy, Mr Allen shared how pupils have reconnected with each other, enjoyed the outdoors, and built stronger relationships with staff. The school grounds have been buzzing once again with football, conversation, and laughter—bringing back the joyful spirit of school life.

Farewells and New Chapters

We also bid a fond farewell to Mr Walsh, a beloved teacher who is stepping into retirement after years of dedicated service in both the classroom and on the Duke of Edinburgh trails.

Looking Ahead with Pride and Excitement

To the students who are leaving us, whether after one year or many, we send our warmest wishes for success and happiness in whatever lies ahead. You will always be a part of the Fyling Hall family, and we hope you carry with you fond memories, lasting friendships, and the confidence to take on every challenge.

We also look forward to welcoming back our returning students and embracing the fresh energy of the new faces joining us in September. A new chapter awaits, and we are excited for what the future holds.

Until then, we wish our entire Fyling Hall community a restful and joyful summer break.
