As an enthusiastic supporter for outdoor education, Fyling Hall School was delighted to invite Sue Emmerson from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award organisation, to present a certificate confirming that the school has now become a directly licensed centre.
Our headmaster, Mr. Allen, received the framed certificate and commented: “This is great news, it means we can now organise, plan and deliver our own Duke of Edinburgh schemes. We expect to introduce the Duke of Edinburgh award into the PSHE curriculum from September.”
All students in Years 8, 9 and 10 attended the presentation which was followed by a DVD and a question and answer session. The students were clearly excited at the prospect of being involved in the Duke of Edinburgh which, at present involves about a dozen students from Year 10 upwards. Children who choose to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme will be signing up for an amazing adventure and lots of fun, as they take part in a range of activities, all leading to the achievement of an award that is recognised by universities and employers alike.
