Thanks to the Friends of Fyling Hall (PTA) the Junior School were able to order a number of new Forest School resources. We have been outdoors putting them to good use already.
Last week the children were busy at Forest School using their new flint and steel to light our fire-pit; the children used skills learnt from their residential trip to Bewerley Park. They worked together finding sticks to support our new tripod. Now the tripod is assembled, the children will be able to enjoy using our new cooking equipment to keep warm during the winter Forest School sessions.
We asked some of the pupils what they thought of the new Forest School resources;
“I am really looking forward to using the new tarpaulin to improve our dens, we have not finished decorating our den but this will mean we can have a roof and walls.” – Harry
“I cannot wait to the tarpaulin for our flooring and walls for our den.” – Olivia
“I am really looking forward to using the wood sculpture set, we can make decorations for our den.” –
Harriet
Junior School pupils thoroughly enjoy Forest School, it is part of Fyling Hall School’s commitment to nurturing the holistic development and happiness of all our learners. We go every week, to our wonderful woodland, rain or shine. The children take part in child-initiated activities, unleashing their creativity and imagination. Many enjoy building dens, whilst others concoct recipes and bake in our mud kitchen, or make face paint out of charcoal. The mud slide is definitely a firm favourite, especially after a lot of rain.
Of course, being out in nature offers numerous health, wellbeing and developmental benefits. There are endless learning possibilities and a whole lot of fun as the pupils explore the forest. Children develop important life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience, together with a sense of wonder and appreciation of the world around them. Fridays at Fyling Hall Junior School are filled with smiles, laughter and often a fair bit of mud!
The Junior School have also recently purchased hand drills, carving equipment, camouflage netting, mini beast exploring sets and cake cutters for our school mud kitchen.
We are really excited to get busy and use all of our new equipment!
Thank you very much to the Friends of Fyling Hall for their support and to all the parents who contributed to their fundraising efforts over the last year.
