“In Monday assembly our Junior School and choir performed some of the songs prepared for the Eskdale Festival, which finished the previous Saturday with a grand Gala Concert. We also watched a video about the importance of musical education. Later on that day, Year 7 and 8 students celebrated the National Pi Day by learning about circles and different uses of π (which, this time, did not include eating it).
Tuesday saw our U14 girls play in the hockey tournament at Caedmon College, and they made it through to the cup final. As there are only 4 Year 9s and the rest are Year 7 and 8, this is an impressive result.
In Wednesday assembly, we had the pleasure of watching videos and photos taken during the Folgarida ski trip, picturing both some spectacular landscapes… and falls. I’m sure that after this very entertaining presentation many people started considering signing up for the skiing trip next year.
Year 10 students took part in a Maths Challenge in Scarborough and won a prize for best teamwork! The week finished off with a trip to the Maths Inspiration Day. On early Friday morning, a large group of senior students left to Leeds West Yorkshire Playhouse to watch some inspiring maths speakers, presenting the subject from its unknown, exciting side.
Yesterday afternoon, our Year 7 netball team took part in a District Netball tournament. They played 9 matches, lost 4, drew 1 and won 4. “An excellent achievement against much bigger schools.” (Mr Coates)
Today, as we publish, Year 5 and 6 pupils will be taking part in a football and hockey match against arch rivals Scarborough College.”
