Every year we task Fyling Hall’s Year 9s with researching famous mathematicians who have left a lasting legacy. This year we have presentations celebrating the works of Russian Mathematician Lobachevsky, Blaise Pascal, who left us the Pascal triangle, Oliver Heaviside, John Napier,  John Venn of Venn Diagram fame, Katherine Johnson, a real-life rocket scientist and mathematician,Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, the father of algebra from the 9th century.

Some excellent presentations, well researched and one presenter contributing live from their home in Russia. All students were a credit to themselves. Congratulations to our overall winners! Mr Walsh’s group : Olivia Hall for her presentation on Katherine Johnson and from Ms Mitchell’s group : Lex Jeeves, Keith Ku and Gracie Boocock for their presentation on Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi. We all really enjoyed learning more about famous mathematicians!
