Fyling Hall was proud to read on the BBC news website that a member of the Fyling Hall Alumni has recently been awarded an MBE.
“The folk singer Eliza Carthy has been appointed MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
The musician, originally from Whitby, North Yorkshire, is the daughter of folk musicians Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson.
Miss Carthy, 38, has been twice-nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and regularly records and tours with her parents.
Her father was also appointed MBE in 1998 for services to folk music.
Other people honoured in North Yorkshire include Gavin Harding who becomes an MBE for services to people with learning disabilities.”
Mr Harding, 39, from Selby, is a founding member and former co-chair of the National Forum of People with Learning Disabilities.
In 2011, he became the first councillor with a learning disability to be elected to Selby Town Council and serves as the town’s deputy mayor
