As Eliza is an ex-pupil of Fyling Hall it seemed only fitting that she should come to the school to deliver a song writing workshop to our Year 10 and talented Year 9 Music pupils. She introduced the pupils to her music and talked about her inspiration behind the lyrics and the music videos. As the pupils are following the Rockschool qualification which is aligned with industry standards the pupils were then set the task of producing a song of their choice. They were then asked to perform to the group in order to be given feedback from a professional. Pupils were encouraged to find their own inspiration and Eliza was impressed with the way they discussed their initial ideas. One group based their song on a set of photos of New York, another on the problems of living in a small town; others were more personal including feeling invisible and a tongue in cheek piece about returning to school after the holidays.

Following 3 hours of work the musicians performed their songs to each other and Eliza gave them honest and useful feedback. A fantastic opportunity for all the pupils involved and one which we will hopefully be able to repeat.
