On Thursday 23rd a group of Junior School and year 7 and 8 pupils attended the annual St Martin’s Cross country competition. Since the start of term they have been practising regularly on courses around Fyling Hall, and it was a good chance to compete against some of the big Prep schools in North Yorkshire. Despite two of our runners losing their trainers in the mud, the Junior School pupils performed very well in a competitive race. Ruben Mason came in a commendable 16th position but finished within 45 seconds of the winner, which highlighted how competitive the race was. In the under 13 race the boys put in a consistent team performance, with all seven runners finishing between 19th and 31st positions and Kai Rhodes leading the team home. Holly Mason recorded the highest finish of the afternoon, in 14th place in the girls race. Mr Allen said “All the runners ran very well on a cold afternoon with a very muddy course and some high quality opposition. I was proud of all of them and I hope it will inspire them for the future.”
