On Thursday night, school based band By the Sea performed at La Rosa Hotel. The group comprising of 6th formers George Husband and Kate Lavery opened for professional musicians Bella Hardy and Ross Wilson, who are on a national tour. Bella is a Radio 2 Folk Award winner, and has been performing on the folk scene since she was a teenager. She has recently toured with former Fyling Hall pupil Eliza Carthy.Ross Wilson is a singer-songwriter whose music has been described as evoking Van Morrison and John Martyn. He is undertaking a ‘folk apprenticeship’ while touring with Bella Hardy, as well as performing his own alternative rock guitar songs.
By the Sea were thrilled to perform for these talented musicians and to see their inspiring set. An amazing opportunity and achievement for a school band!
