The Year 10s have just finished their work experience week and I was lucky enough to get a placement with the National Park shadowing a Coastal Ranger.
We were out and about all day. We went all over the coastal region of the North York Moors National Park. The ranger I helped out was called Bernie McLinden and his base was in the National Park Visitors Centre located in Danby.
We did all sorts of jobs around the National Park but installing a new information board in Runswick Bay was one of my highlights. We also checked foot paths, replaced the old right of way signs and explored overgrown woodland. The one thing I didn’t enjoy was the 2-hour long meeting but 90% of his work is outside in the beautiful countryside.
Overall, I really enjoyed my week and as an outdoorsy person who enjoys a challenge, I really recommend this experience.
