Fyling Hall School is delighted to announce that we will be hosting a music masterclass over two days with the up and coming acoustic band, Maia.
The band is a 4 piece alternative acoustic band from Huddersfield. They play all sorts of disco, sci-fi folk and pop on instruments such as the ukulele, cajon, trumpet, banjo, mandolin or as they say ‘whatever else is lying around!’
On Wednesday 15th October, Maia will spend the day working with the Junior School pupils as well as Year 7. Maia and the pupils will be performing to one another, song writing, creating collaborative music and experimenting with a variety of instruments.
On Thursday 16th October, Maia will spend the day in the music department at the Senior School working with a number of our musicians, ‘jamming’ together and generally appreciating each other’s musical ability.
The music masterclass is a really exciting venture, set up thanks to the close link that Fyling Hall’s Head of Music (Mrs. Sam Wormald) has formed with Musicport’s Jim and Sue McLaughlin. Last year, Fyling Hall’s Year 13 pupils George Husband and Kate Lavery, who formed the band “By the Sea”, backed Maia in an evening performance at local Whitby hotel, La Rosa. It was at this meeting that the band promised to collaborate with young musicians from our school.
On Friday 17th October, Fyling Hall musicians will perform alongside Maia at the Spa Pavilion Music between 2 – 3 pm. Everyone is welcome to join us!
If you would like to see what we have been up to during the music master class, please come along and support our young musicians.
