Academic Excellence Scholarships at Fyling Hall
Year 9 and Sixth Form entry | September 2027
Fyling Hall is offering Academic Excellence Scholarships to academically able and curious students joining us as full boarders in September 2027.
Our small classes and supportive community allow talented students to be known as individuals, challenged academically and encouraged to develop their interests with confidence.
Successful scholars will receive full boarding at no additional cost, with families paying the equivalent of the published day-school fee.
Applications close on Friday 6 November 2026.
Two scholarship routes
Year 9 Academic Excellence Scholarship
This three-year award is for students joining Year 9 and continues through to the completion of Year 11.
Applicants should have a strong academic record, enjoy learning and demonstrate the potential to achieve highly at GCSE. Scholars will complete Year 9 before beginning their two-year GCSE programme, during which they will normally study between eight and ten subjects.
Sixth Form Academic Excellence Scholarship
This two-year award is for students joining Year 12 and continues through to the completion of Year 13.
Applicants will normally be expected to achieve at least six GCSE or IGCSE grades at 7–9, with the majority at grades 8 or 9, or an appropriate international equivalent. Grades of 8 or 9 will normally be expected in subjects they wish to study at A level.
Scholars will normally take three Level 3 subjects, including at least two academic A levels. The third may be another A level or an approved Level 3 course, such as Music, Drama or Equine Management, subject to entry requirements and timetable availability.
Who can apply?
The scholarships are open to new UK and international applicants seeking a full-boarding place at Fyling Hall for September 2027.
Applicants must be joining either:
- Year 9 for the full three-year programme through to the end of Year 11; or
- Year 12 for the full two-year Sixth Form programme.
Applicants must also meet Fyling Hall’s usual admissions and boarding requirements. International applicants should normally have English at CEFR B2 level or an accepted equivalent.
Current Fyling Hall pupils and applicants for day, weekly-boarding or one-year GCSE places are not eligible.
Fyling Hall expects to award at least one scholarship at each entry point. Additional awards may be made where candidates meet the required standard. The School reserves the right not to make an award if no candidate meets that standard.
What are we looking for?
Academic achievement matters, but grades are only one part of the selection process. We are looking for students who:
- are intellectually curious and enjoy exploring new ideas;
- show independence, commitment and a positive approach to challenge;
- have strong academic potential; and
- will contribute positively to school and boarding life.
Applicants will be considered through their school reports, predicted or achieved grades, confidential academic reference, personal statement, scholarship assessments and interview.
How to apply
Applicants must complete the Academic Excellence Scholarship Application Form and Fyling Hall’s usual admissions application.
The scholarship application asks for a recent school report, available grades, a personal statement and the details of an academic referee. Full requirements can be found in the Academic Excellence Scholarships Information and Entry Criteria guide.
