January to March is always a busy time in the Music department and I am optimistic that this year we will finally get to do some live performances. Every year, our Year 11 and 13 RockSchool musicians, spending the first quarter of the year preparing, rehearsing and completing their exam concert as part of their final exam unit. They have 5-6 weeks of rehearsal time, to prepare and perfect a performance of their choice (following an exam brief). The last couple of years, these exam concerts have sadly been behind closed doors, but I’m hopeful that this year we should be able to go ahead as normal.
I have been really impressed so far with how well the Year 11 and 13 pupils have been preparing and I can’t wait to see how the end result turns out. The fantastic thing about this exam period, is all the other opportunities that arise for pupils to help with the event. For example, one of our Year 12 pupils is being the events manager for the A-Level concert, whilst other pupils are helping with the sound and lighting for the Year 11 and 13 concerts. We then have those who help man the camera and also the ones who are there to great the audience members on arrival. It is a team effort and it is fantastic to see how many pupils are keen to help out with the event and support their classmates.
If you would like to attend either one of these events, they will be happening on the following dates:
Year 11 group – Thursday 10th March – 6:30-7:30pm
A-Level group – Wednesday 16th March – 6:30-7:30pm
More details will be sent out nearer the time and you will be able to reserve your tickets my contacting the office at school. I really hope to see a big turn out for both events, after missing out over the last couple of years. To all my music students, keep up the good work, you are doing fantastically.
Love from Mrs Swain, Head of Music
