Yesterday the sixth form art students paid a visit to Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA), to see an exhibition that came from the Tate in St Ives.
Major works by artists such as Patrick Heron, Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth were shown alongside those of their contemporaries from elsewhere in Europe, America and beyond, such as Wassily Kandinsky, Mark Rothko, George Braque, Jackson Pollock and Juan Gris.
The students thought the journey was well worth the effort. “It is great to be able to see art work of this quality on our doorstep and not have to go to London’s Tate modern” said Charlotte McAdam.
